Who is Beyonce Knowles

So just who is Beyonce Knowles anyway and why does everyone love her so much? Well, Beyonce was born September 4, 1981 in Houston, Texas and from an early age showed promise as a singer. She went to school at at St. Mary’s Elementary School in Texas and decided to spend some time learning dance at the school, including ballet and jazz. But in spite of her beginnings in dance, she was quickly discovered as a singer when her instructor heard her humming after one of the recitals she’d gone through and she actually managed to hit the high note.

She decided to try out for the school talent show, but almost didn’t go because she was at the time an extremely shy person and actually was afraid to perform on stage. However, once she had her first taste of the spotlight, she knew it was her destiny. By age seven, Beyonce entered her first talent show and sang the song Imagine, by John Lennon (always a popular song for child singers – Declan Galbraith sang the same song for his first album at age 10). She won the competition and was rewarded with a standing ovation form the crowd who clearly saw the talent she possessed.

At the tender age of 8 years old, Beyonce Knowles joined what would later become the defining group of her career. She became a singer in a group of children called Girls Tyme. The group performed for several years and had some minor success before West coast R&B producer Arne Frager flew to Texas to see them. He liked them so much he decided to represent the group and got them a spot on the talent show Star Search. They lost the competition, but eventually overcame their despair and decided to try again. In 1993, they changed the name of the group to Destiny’s Child and after four years of hard work managed to get a recording contract with Columbia Records.

That same year, the group released their first album, entitled Destiny’s Child and the song “no, no, no,” which won them quite a bit of acclaim. They rose to super stardom a few years later when, in 1999, the group debuted their second album, The Writings on the Wall. That album sold 7 million copies and solidified Beyonce Knowles’ career as one of America’s all time super stars in music and later in movies when she costarred in Austin Powers Goldmember.
